Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is one of the newest blood thinners on the market and is manufactured by Bayer and marketed by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, in the United States. The drug was approved in 2011. The most dangerous side effect for people taking Xarelto is uncontrollable bleeding – a risk shared by all blood thinners. Some of the country’s top heart doctors are concerned about Xarelto’s safety.
Hundreds of deaths and thousands of serious bleeding events have been linked to a similar blood thinner, Pradaxa. So far, there have been almost 200 Pradaxa lawsuits filed.
Xarelto may already be on the same hazardous path that Pradaxa has taken. In 2012, a number
of deaths and serious bleeding events were attributed to Xarelto. In addition, while it is supposed to prevent blood clots, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already received reports of dangerous blood clots in people taking the drug.
If you or someone you love has taken Xarelto and suffered from severe side effects, you may
consider filing a Xarelto lawsuit to receive compensation.

Blood Thinner Lawsuits
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices found that blood thinners – including Xarelto – were the most dangerous drugs with the highest number of serious side effects reported to the FDA. Thousands of prescriptions were written for Xarelto since it was released, and many patients and doctors are concerned that this medication may cause the same serious bleeding risks as Pradaxa. Like Pradaxa, Xarelto has no known antidote, and there is no effective way of stopping the hemorrhaging that can be caused by Xarelto.
Lawsuits against the makers of blood thinners, including Xarelto, accuse the companies of
failing to warn patients and doctors of the dangerous bleeding side effects. They also accuse the companies of producing a defective product because the company released the drug without an antidote. A number of people have died because doctors could not reverse the bleeding.
Some blood thinner injuries include:
• Death caused by uncontrolled bleeding
• Intestinal bleeding
• Rectal bleeding
• Brain hemorrhaging
These lawsuits also accuse the drug companies of concealing important safety information and not testing the drug enough before it was put on the market.
If you or a loved one has suffered from bleeding, blood clots or other side effects caused by Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit against Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals. If you need help figuring out your legal options, our firm can help.
